Fun in Little Rock

A couple of days ago there was a really bad storm come through Arkansas. Before the storm came I was looking for a place to browse for D&D books. I went to a comic store (working on past experience), but found a place even better. I was directed to "The Gameroom". (9700 N Rodney Parham Rd, Little Rock, AR ) This place happens to be the perfect place for roleplaying/ card games/ board games. 2 stories of dedicated game space. After browsing I accepted an invite to play Robo Rally and it ended up being the perfect thing to do on an exceptionally rainy evening.

It just so happened that the next day was 'board game night'. So we stayed up til midnight playing "game I forgot the name but similar to Settlers of Catan", Boomtown, and Keythedral. If the kids were older I would for sure want to play these... they were pretty involved rules, but once you got a hold of them things sped up. I especially liked the Keythedral one (not just because I won), but because building your own board was pretty cool.

My further exploration of Little Rock yesterday yielded.... 'THE' Little Rock. YEs, I actually found the namesake for the city. It was more recognizable in the past when folks would use it as a landmark
The Little Rock then
, but at the moment it's covered in construction and not quite it's former self.
'THE' Little Rock now

Was is Carcassonne? We got that one for Christmas - similar to Catan, but a little easier, and the big catch is that the map has to make sense when you're done with it. Fun stuff! :)

They had that one there, but no. It started with an 'E'. Erud... ? Erid... ?

You each had a starter house. You would roll to see where a ship landed and collect 'gold' and 'influence' based on your property in the ships line. You could lay down building permit tiles and then build more buildings. Building walls or the church (which had right of way and would destroy other buildings) could help you win.

You won by placing all of your colored blocks on the board. Some big buildings had a spot to put one as did the church pieces and parts of the wall... and something about building near windmills allowed you to move a windmill tycoon-like marker.

there were a lot of rules

*shrug*
