Just call me the Wizard
First I want to add a link to Diterlizzi's site. He's the Spiderwick Chronicles illustrator.
Now I want to mention that one of my cube mates had his nine year old granddaughter at work most of the week. So she hung out with him and stayed in his cube when he went to meetings. While she was here I kept thinking I was hearing Super Mario Bros. It ended up coming from her Game Boy Advance. So one day I asked her if my ears were indeed telling the truth.
( and they were... I've only been familiar with video game music a short span of my life, but I know a super mario melody when I hear one)
Asked her if she knew about the warp zones. 'Yes..' the one to 2,3,4 and the one to 5. AH but what about the one to 6,7,8?!
So anyway... before I left for the day I showed her where the warp zone was. After much shouting and jumping she continued playing.
So it turns out that Nintendo has rereleased some of their games. On the site they have little "Did you know" facts.
Of these... did you know that President of Nintendo of America, Minoru Arakawa, named Mario after the landlord of the NoA office building.
SO other things that have recently peaked my interest...
Food Network shows!!!
This is great stuff!
The Secret Life of...
Good Eats (ooh this link has DVDs!
These series have so much info about food AND food history AND the science behind it.... I wish I would either record them or find out where I could buy them!
Another show I just recently saw.. on the same network.. was the Iron Chef competition. now if you have seen Takeshi's Castle (MXC Most Extreme Elimination on Spike network) you may have a feel for Japanese TV.
This show has some guy that has his "iron chefs" take on a Challenger. The challenger chooses which Iron Chef to Challenge (similar to Beat the Geeks on Tech TV). they then have an hour to prepare a meal using the ingredient of the day. The episode I saw last night was Giant Eel Battle.
Just got to love the opening sequence when the man behind it all strikes a pose... picks up bell pepper....takes a bite out of a bell pepper... stares at camera and smiles (they have a pic on the official website here).... then they zoom out and show the "Kitchen Arena" and all the cook/helper people lined up at attention ready to start the BATTLE.
