Movie Time

Thanks to Amy, Rosie and I got to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It made for Rose's 3rd viewing, but she still enjoyed it. She gets real emotional during some of it. 'Dear don't cry it's all right.... that's just the Warner Brothers insignia.'

I poke fun at her, but it's great to have her to discuss it afterwards. "Wasn't there something like that in the book?" 'Yeah but it happened like this ....'

Good movie. would recommend it. and if you've read the book.... just put the book in the VCR and hit fast forward.

And I'll note it here, but I think a dinner theater would be great!.. How about some spinach and artichoke dip for some chips rather than the chips and "real cheese". We need some good eats at the theater! Probably wouldn't work with the numbers, but I was hungry and a hotdog and popcorn just wasn't enough. something tells me they would have noticed if I tried to sneak in with Chinese food down my pants (several things would probably clue them in I suppose).

Ad Hoc Ad Loc and Quick Pro Quo

Busy day today. Went over to the Crossroads Mall for a book signing! My friend, Matt Reiten, was hanging out at Waldenbooks signing his stories. While we were visiting some other people from the OSU Lab came by. I was going to post the picture we took, but Rose still has the camera. So for now go ->here<- and imagine Bradlee, Stacee, Matt, and I in a picture together.

The more I live my life the more I wish I could convey my ideas and thoughts to others. Art and writing really seem to do that. When I read Matt's stories and they paint pictures in my head I wish I could do the same. Just last night I had a wild dream (not that type of dream) and was trying to tell Rose about it, but I felt later that if only I could paint a picture, or write half-way decent. Any way...

On another note in the act of going anywhere these days the kids request "The Yellow Submarine" to be playing in the car. They have been watching the movie on VHS and they never stop singing along, or telling me about the meanies or John or Ringo. They do pretty good singing even taken some liberties and produced... 'All You Need is Grub', and 'Lucy in the Sky with Neighbors'.

Good night.. I await my Harry Potter fan.

A Day at the Park

Finally made it over to Martin Nature Center. It has the trails I was after. Trails meandering through woods and creeks. Even comes complete with bridges, gazebo, lookouttower, and a prairie dog patch.

The kids really seemed to enjoy it. They had a museum that had lots of the usual exihibits (antlers... bird nests... turtle shells... animal footprints.. tree bark). It had some different ones (dinosaur made out of trash [compare fossils that you find everywhere to our mounds of non-decomposible waste]... aerial photos of the park through the years). They also have a library with kid books and adult books. And finally they have real live animals (tarantula... bull snake... toad... fish... turtles). Could hardly get the kids to go on a walk!!

The kids were hilarious... they both demanded to wear coats when we left. It WAS cool (40s) this morning, but by the time we went to the park it was in the 70s! I kept offering to take their coats..."No!". I wondered what the passer by's thought as they marched past in their tshirts and tanktops as my two children cordially said 'hello' in full artic gear (alright maybe not so artic).

they finally shed the coats and allowed the sweat to evaporate. *rolls eyes*. We didn't see the prairie dogs, but we did see an enormous turtle on the trail as well as some monstrous carp under one of the bridges!

anywho... even if it was gravel and dirt trails it sure beat the paved walking trails near us! There was even a spot where we hopped some rocks across a stream! woohoo! Definitely worth visiting again!

What to do

Rose is off to Angie's, and the kids and I are left to ourselves.

Yesterday just hung out and had a big drop off the garbage/play at the playground/pick up the mail trip.

I have been fighting the urge to go out and buy the new DuckTales first 27 episodes on DVD. After reading the review I was kinda dissappointed that the 5-part pilot (searching for the city of gold) was not included. I was syched up about those episodes.

As for more activities I think I will finally visit the Martin Nature Center. 5000 W Memorial.... near MacArther Blvd. There is an official site to come, but searching around there apparently are 3 trails and 140 acres. Wed-Sun 9-6 so I should have plenty of opportunity over the weekend.

Geo-searching Maniac

I've been a GoogleEarth addict since I found out about it. I got on a kick for finding more sites that were visible by the air. this spawned many searches for mazes around the earth.

Example: Dole Pineapple Maze in Hawaii

I also, by accident, had the "Google Earth Community" places shown. I was frustrated by having "i's" cluttering my screen, but some were kind of cool. People could mark places and leave notes and pictures. Real World houses are marked, etc. Even found someone telling about a soda pop factory in Mombai where they would get soda after school.

Recently I started looking for Atlas missile silos (insert Rose rolling her eyes). I found a site called Missilebases.com YES... you can own your very own MISSILE SILO!!
Some are pretty run down (this is not one for sale at the site).
Here is someone's house, but the silo is ruined.
and then there are some that are pretty fancy!

There is something to be said about having your very own 2000lb blast door!!!

Can't help but think off the Fallout videogame series

:D Most are rather far away from towns/cities, I suppose this can be a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it. But you get a friggin' BLAST DOOR!!!

And so my googleearthing continues...
