Survived the tornado

So last night we had a tornado (it happens in OK). Rose was off to Norman to knit and I took the kids to Guthrie for dance. We were on our way home and the radio brought up the tornado... and my 4 year old reminded me I had promised to get her orange juice from Walmart.

We tried to enter Walmart, but were turned away! Everyone was apparently holed up in the back...except for the poor guy who had to stand by the door and turn people away. Jamie was going to go in anyway... she didn't quite understand why Walmart would close.

So we get home and turn on the TV. I figure they will have coverage of the tornado on the ground... (seeing would be easier than explaining some huge swirling cloud of dust/debris to a 3/4 year old I figure).

Well.. they have coverage.. .and Cian is glued to the set. With several trips to the back porch and calling everything a tornado.. we have a little weather man on our hands. Jamie acted scared, but she wanted to watch her movies... something about shots of a tornado and doppler radar images was boring.

The tornado disappeared into the clouds after wrecking havoc on fields and El Reno's 2 airplane hangars at their airport. A quick check of nws.noaa.gov showed the danger had passed. Cian didn't want to watch anything else. He wanted to watch the 'big tornado movie'.

Television programming seems to be the hardest thing to relay to children. If something isn't on right now that means you can't watch it right now. hmmm

oh well We were all fine at home and Rose made it back ok... storm blew over and the baseball sized hail didn't cross either of our paths. (good thing)

Travel... the interesting part of it

Travel can be fun, and one of the most fun I have with travel is getting to see people I normally don't get to visit. Throughout this job rose and I have visited friends and family we would have never gotten to meet. Waco gave me the opportunity to meet with someone I usually only see at reunions. My Great Aunt lives here... she'll be 99 in July!

She is sharp and still walking! I figured it would be a short visit, but I was there about 3 hours, and could have easily stayed more. She told me the family history stories I had heard before, but she has the first person...I remember who said what... side of the stories.

It makes me want to learn about my family history. Talk of travel in wagons, traveling 60 miles to pick up the mail, so many family history stories. Cracking up at things that happened long ago. If I ever make it to my 90s I wish I could be as jolly. Even to remember all these things would be great!

And so I had to part ways so I could wake up at 2AM to go to work at 3...

:D

Had a good Easter

So the folks came up and had Easter at our place. The kids took a little while to search for all the eggs, but Cian started full force after the discovery was made that they contained chocolate.

I'm now in Waco, TX. So far so good. Lots of old buildings here I'll try to post/photo etc. as I get to them. Still need to visit the Dr Pepper museum... yes this is where Dr Pepper came from...the oldest major soft drink.

Sunday pic post (posted Mon, taken Sat)

This weekend we, the waits clan, hung out at the medieval faire in norman.

We saw all sorts of crafts. Did lots of walking. Saw knights and kings/queens, etc. And were torn about being dressed up (those who were looked awful hot)

Good fun
